The 37th Annual Flower Show on 4th August started with sweltering temperatures in the continuing heatwave which had gripped the Country. There were serious doubts as to whether the Show would get enough entries to be viable, but out loyal villagers rose to the most difficult growing conditions I have known and the entries did come in and we were able to put on a good Show. The number of visitors during the afternoon was down on previous years, mainly because it was JUST TOO HOT!
The Judges were very impressed with the entries considering the extreme growing conditions. The cookery section was again well represented with its friendly rivalry, but the wasps were a bit of a nuisance.
I must thank the Committee for all their hard work, also Ann Channon and Margaret Dowding on the raffle and Sheila Sessions on the produce plus Dylan Bennett helping Hazel in the kitchen. We must not forget our gallant band who set up on Friday and dismantled after the Show.
Terry Bannister enjoyed herself presenting the prizes and particularly encouraging the younger winners, which I am pleased to say entries are increasing.
Finally a big thank you to all our entrants and we hope to see you all and more next year which may be a more normal year.
